Volunteer Opportunities

The Friends’, including its Board of Directors and Advisory Council, comprises entirely of unpaid volunteers. This commitment to the community and belief in the critical importance of literacy unite our members and also allow for more financial support of Rio Rancho’s library programming.
Throughout the year, volunteer opportunities consist of:
- Working in our Friends’ Shop in Loma Colorado Main Library
- Participating on one or more Thursday mornings (between 9-11:30 a.m.) sorting and pricing donated books
- Researching the resale value of some higher-value donated books
- Stocking our Friendshop in Esther Bone Memorial Library
- Stocking our Friends’ Shop in Loma Colorado Main Library
- Assisting at our mega book sales the second Saturday of each month at Loma Colorado Main Library
- Assisting at our additional mega book sales held occasionally at Esther Bone Memorial Library or Loma Colorado Main Library
- Assisting at our book sales held periodically at Idalia Market Place
- Evaluating applications for our Scholarship award for Rio Rancho City’s library staff
- Distributing among Rio Rancho’s public schools collected box tops and labels for education
- Creating, mailing and/or distributing our newsletters
- Updating content on our web site
- Representing the Friends during Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce events
- Chairing or assisting with our annual bowl-a-thon activities
- Chairing or assisting with other fundraising activities
- Chairing or assisting with our Publicity Committee
- Assisting with our Book for Babies program
- Assisting with our Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition Luncheon in April
- Assisting with our Holiday Luncheon in December
- Chairing or assisting with membership applications
- Serving on our very active Board of Directors
- Serving on our Advisory Council
As the list above shows, the Friends of the Library of Rio Rancho is a very busy and dedicated team of individuals who are passionate about literacy and who actively work towards our vision of fully funding world-class programs provided by a world-class library system to a fully and highly literate Rio Rancho community.
